Traffic and access

Mushroom farm vehicles
Consolidating the mushroom operation to a single site has now removed all cross-site tractor and forklift truck journeys.

HGVs
With the removal of the composting and the consolidation of the mushroom growing and processing operation at Thakeham, Monaghan Mushrooms has been able to reduce vehicle numbers visiting and departing the Chesswood site by around 65% from circa 150 HGVs to just 50 per day. All HGVs are now routed down Water Lane, thereby removing the historical traffic problem along the narrow stretches of Storrington Road north of the mushroom farm and away from the Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) of Storrington High Street.

Abingworth housing site
The main entrance to the Abingworth housing development will be the existing southern entrance, which will be widened and upgraded to increase visibility and safe access on to Storrington Road; all trees will be retained here.

The existing northern entrance will be an additional access to the development, to the new sports facilities and to the new Village Hall. The concrete road down to the existing Village Hall will become a cul-de-sac, only serving the properties on Storrington Road; there will be no through-route for vehicles to the new development.

Abingworth Hall Hotel will not be affected by the development, although there is the potential for a rear access to the hotel car park from the new development is difficult, a new entrance to the hotel will be created from the rear of the hotel car park into the new development road network.
